For each of the sound sample, two regions of a phonogram were chosen: the one was encoded into Real G2 system, and another was encoded into formats of *.ASF (fair quality for a rapid run-through) and MPEG (medium or high quality for saving, if desired, on the disk of your local computer). The length of the regions varies from 30 seconds to 1,5 minute.
Al of the phonograms were recorded in the sample rate of MONO, 16-bit, 44 100 Hz, and then encoded into:
Format | Mark |
Parameters (bitrate) | File size |
Preliminary estimate of the time for downloading | Recommended options for tuning the player |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Real G2 | 20,7Kb/s (for modems of 28.8 Kbps) | approx. 80-200 Ęb | Buffer is filled in 30-60 seconds, then the playback begins | Choose your sound buffer to value of 12-20 sec., tune up the ports for correct proxy-server | |
*.ASF, *.ASX |
20Kbps,
11 025 Hz, MONO; or 16Kb/s, 16 000 Hz, MONO; or 10Kb/s, 11 025 Hz, MONO |
from 80 to 160 Ęb (approx.) | Buffer is filled in 10-50 seconds, then the playback begins | Choose your sound buffer to value of 15-20 sec., tune up the ports for correct proxy-server | |
MPEG Layer 3 (medium quality) |
24Kb/s, 22 050 Hz, MONO | from 90 to 240 Ęb (approx.) | 3-5 min | Fix up your Internet browser for maximum speed | |
MPEG Layer 3 (high quality) |
64Kb/s, 44 100 Hz, MONO | from 240 to 600 Ęb (approx.) | 6-14 min | Fix up your Internet browser for maximum speed |
Notes:
1) Preliminary estimate of the
downloading time is shown for Internet connections with 28,8 Kbps modems. Faster Internet
connections and modems allow you to start listening immediately.
2) To listen the *.asf and *.mp3 files you should have Mpeg
Layer-3 Audio and also Voxware MetaSound (AC16V1, AC10V1) Codecs installed on you
computer. These codecs are included in MS Media Player (or other players like it) and do
automatically install themselves with the program(s). For more information go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/netshow/codecs.htm
or to the developers of Layer-3 Audio Codecs:

3) The parameters, included in the table above, are only for an approximate estimation and
its values are subjects to be changed without any notice. Parameters for the media,
containing video, slide images or text may be quite different in size from values included
in the table.
